  Female 4 Front: Action! - Kusama, The Complex Destroyer

  Add this film to the list of movies included in the opening clip comp that played before the Sunday movie block on one of our local channels. They played the scene where she avoids falling to the ground while standing in a block or something. Also, I’ve probably seen the poster for this a few times. In fact, I think I may have seen a clip of the original show. Needless to say, this movie has been on my radar, but this is the first time I’ve seen it in its entirety.

  And to the film’s credit, its world building, characters, story arc, look, entire production design, lore, and everything else…

  Does a great job of replicating the pervy bio-organic weirdness of the cartoon, with vaguely vaginal poison dart-shooting security fruit, spies passing sensitive stolen technologies with their tongues, or Sophie Okonedo's hand-feet. But it was probably a mistake to try to manufacture a decipherable plot out of what was always an intentionally narratively baffling feat of imaginative futurist design and impossible animated acrobatics. There's just too much talking and explaining, and what should be carried off with alluring silence instead seems like intentional camp. That's not necessarily bad, but unfortunately Kusama's action has been sliced to ribbons for a PG-13, and in the occasional instance when it's not, you get bland stuff like Charlize spinning in place with a machine gun, and so most of what was lithe and visceral in the source material ends up a generic blur here.

  If you take a stupid plot, add legitimately good production design and then put Charlize Theron at the center of it.. it just suddenly turns into a good movie. it excels in its really cheesy moments and it excels with the action sequences. is it good? honestly who’s to say. did it remind me of a will.i.am/britney spears music video? yes. does charlize theron look amazing in a latex bodysuit? obviously! This movie is so fun honestly.

  Æon Flux dispatches Charlize Theron with a futuristic dominatrix look and reveals that Karyn Kusama is not a very good action mayhem director, but as a director she certainly has creative-beserk ideas for set and costume design — if only her vision wasn’t so monotonous.   Aeon flux has some interesting world building, set design and entertaining fights and hilarious stunts but apart from that the film bored me, there was no life to this film at all, characters were speaking as if they had no soul, very wooden dialogue and the whole film seemed to be aimless. Charles thereon did her best amd she's OK but everyone else annoyed me, they acted like robots. I didn't care about what was happening.
