HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4535

The HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4535 All-in-One Printer is a light-duty inkjet multifunction printer (MFP) with home and office-centric features that include print, scan, copy and photo printing. I won't win any awards for print speed or paper handling, but it makes the printer a good fit if you have a home office and you need a dependable MFP that can do the job.

The 4535 features a cool new design and can scan to, a computer, while also working as a standalone copier. The 25-sheet capacity for the single input tray is one of the key factors that makes it suitable only for light-duty office use.

As with almost any inkjet, you can use it in the dual role of home and home-office printer, but note that with only one paper tray, if you want to switch between printing on plain paper and photo paper, you'll have to swap the paper every time you switch.

The printer comes with a 2.2-inch mono front-panel touch screen that lets you play with all sorts of settings, which include the pape size, power handling, web services, and even Printables, HP's templates service. Since the printer is wireless, connecting and setting it up is a walk in the park.

All you do is connect the printer to your local router, download the software onto your laptop or PC, follow the on-screen instructions of choosing a network printers and that's it. It is all set and ready to rock and roll! The printer doesn't include Ethernet as a connection choice, though.

Support for mobile printing includes printing through the cloud, if the printer is connected to a network that's connected to the Internet, and the ability to print through a Wi-Fi access point on your network from iOS, Android, Windows, Google Chrome, Amazon Kindle, and Blackberry smartphones and tablets. If you connect the 4535 to a single PC via USB cable instead of connecting to a network, you won't be able to print through the cloud or use the Web apps.

The Deskjet Ink Advantage 4535 also has job scheduling and remote printing options that work in the sleep mode. With the printer connected to the internet via the home network, in sleep mode, it will accept print jobs from the e-print app on your phone or scheduled jobs when the time comes. The phone could be connected to the Internet from anywhere in the world to send a print job.

The 4535 is light and small enough for one person to move into place easily. When it comes to performance, the 4535 offers good print speed. When connected using a wireless network, the printer can spit out a page within 20 seconds of hitting the print button, with subsequent pages at a speed of about 8ppm, which is not bad. Colour printing is also quite a rapid process where an A4 borderless photo on a glossy page would take no more than 3 minutes.

Photo speed is also quite good - the printer averages at 1 minute 5 seconds for a 4-by-6-inch print in our tests. Text quality is good enough for most business or personal use. Graphics and photo quality are both quite good, too, compared with other inkjet MFPs.

In terms of consumables, the 4535 comes with an HP 652 Black and Tricolor cartridges that have a said yield of 480 and 150 pages respectively.
