Porsche Cayenne 957 Off-road Build: 35s, Pre-Runner Bumpers & Other Mods
With its powerful engines, robust suspension system, and all-wheel drive capability, it is no wonder why the 1st generation Porsche Cayenne is becoming increasingly popular with those looking for an adventure on the trails yet want something more unique than a mainstream Jeep or Toyota build.
Many people are drawn to the combination of luxury and performance that this vehicle offers at a fraction of the cost on the current used car market. In addition to impressive off-road capabilities, drivers can also enjoy a comfortable ride and the full set of premium features common to this German car manufacturer.

The performance of the Porsche Cayenne is one of its most attractive features. It offers a variety of engines ranging from a 3.2-liter V6 to an 8-cylinder, twin-turbo 4.8-liter engine providing over 500 horsepower, which allows drivers to choose the power level that best suits their needs.
Its robust suspension system also adds to the off-road capabilities as it absorbs shocks and uneven terrain better than other similar vehicles on the market and is relatively easy to lift using aftermarket components. The stock air suspension may also be modified to lock in the top position to accommodate oversized tires.

A few years back, we created a feature dedicated to one of the earliest Cayenne Turbo off-road builds. At that time, it looked very unusual and odd, but today, we can see Cayenne gaining strong following among off-road enthusiasts who appreciate the sheer potential of this platform.
The build we feature today is more elaborate and functional. It has been outfitted with massive 35″ off-road tires and a rugged pre-runner style tubular off-road bumper to gain extra clearance when the road get’s harsh. It’s owned and modified by Geno Foster, who was kind enough to tell us more about his Cayenne build.

The Build
When it comes to off-roading in a Porsche Cayenne, the modifications are key. This 2009 Cayenne has been transformed into the ultimate off-road machine, thanks to a series of impressive upgrades.
Suspension
The suspension has been upgraded with a Eurowise 3″ Lift Kit and Eurowise Tubular UCA with Polyurethane Bushings, providing extra clearance and stability on rough terrain.
Wheels
The wheels have been replaced with sleek and sturdy Victor Equipment Berg rims in 18×8 size with 20mm Off-set, wrapped in 35×12.5 Falken Wildpeak AT3W Tires that offer unparalleled grip and handling in even the most challenging off-road conditions.
Armor & Gear
The body armor is equally impressive, with the addition of a Simple Fabrication Pre-runner Style Tubular Front Bumper, and a Simple Fabrication Tubular Rear Bumper with Dual Swing Out. The Sherpa Equipment Rammstein Roof Rack adds extra storage and versatility, while the Baja Designs Squadron Ditch Lights provide exceptional lighting in even the darkest conditions.

The Interview
Why did you choose a Cayenne for your off-road project?
– My friend Jirath and I had a first gen Toyota Tundra that we built to share as our first mild off-road rig which is what sparked our interest in all things off-road/overlanding. In 2021, we decided to take advantage of the insane used car market and sell the Tundra to fund our next builds individually.
“After some research we found out how capable the Cayenne is off-road and how underpriced they are for what they were, opposed to most other rigs on the market. Once I found my candidate, I couldn’t say no to a 09’ Porsche Cayenne with 89k miles for only $10k which would have been the same price as a high mileage mostly stock first gen Tacoma at the time”.
What was the most difficult part of the build?
– The most difficult part of the build, especially in the beginning, was just finding info on what works and what route I wanted to go since there was still development happening for aftermarket parts.
“The Cayenne platform is pretty niche so it was just a lot of just figuring things out through trial and error so it definitely took time doing research by talking to the community before ordering any parts to ensure fitment and functionality. The community has grown so much as of lately that aftermarket support is just getting better and better”.
What do you love the most about your Cayenne?
– I love how it’s the best combination of luxury/capability/cost. The 4.8L V8 sound is just the cherry on top to it’s on and off-road performance, it’ll definitely exceed expectations. It’s a unique platform that will always end up being a conversation starter no matter where you are haha.
