Roadmap for Successful PMP® Certification Journey
The Project Management Institute (PMI)® offers the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification, one of the most sought-after credentials in the world. The use of knowledge, skills, and methodologies to successfully complete projects is what PMI® describes as PMP certification.
Here, we will walk you through every step of the PMP® certification journey, from your Certification Eligibility to Renewing your PDUs.
> Certification Eligibility for PMP®:
You must have sufficient project management Work experience, Training to be qualified for the PMP® Certification program. Before applying, make sure you fulfill the following PMP® Certification Eligibility criteria’s.
- A four-year degree
- 36 months leading projects
- 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification
— OR —
- A high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent)
- 60 months leading projects
- 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification
Just make sure all of these criteria’s are accurately documented; test results, certificates, and transcripts should be able to back up your claim.
> Filling out PMP® Examination Forms:
Filling out the examination form is the next step after meeting the eligibility criteria’s. To access the online application form, go to my PMI area after creating an account on the PMI® website.
If you want to submit an offline application, you can download the paper form and ship it to the PMI® US office via registered mail.
You should be cautious when utilizing the online application system to finish the form-filling procedure within 90 days. Your data is kept on PMI® servers for 90 days before being totally deleted. The following are the primary fields that must be completed on the form:
- The subject’s identity (name, address, contact info, etc.)
- College or university diploma
- Total number of contact hours
- The complete list of projects that qualify as project management experience.
Within a week of submitting the application, you will receive the acceptance confirmation.
> Membership & Fees for PMP®:
After submitting the application, the PMI® will send you an email asking you to pay the Exam Fees. The examination cost is now $405 (member) and $555 (non-member). Although it is optional to join PMI®, doing so will allow you to take advantage of a host of advantages.
As soon as you sign up as a member, you’ll get a free digital copy of the PMBOK® Guide as well as free access to e-Reads & Reference project management books, on-demand webinars, and peer-written and reviewed articles.
> Process of PMI® Audit:
You will learn right away whether your application requires an audit once you have paid the test costs for the PMP® Examination. If you are chosen for the PMI® audit, you have three months to show verification of every element you listed in your application.
- Proof of education (photocopy of a diploma from a college or university)
- Evidence of Contract hours (printed contact hours certificate)
- For the contact person specified in the application’s projects, a reference letter has been signed. Each contact person’s original, signed letters of recommendation are placed in separate, officially signed envelopes with flaps.
- If the designated contact person is not accessible, the procedure may be completed by another person who is aware of the applicant’s intended function.
Send these envelopes, proofs to PMI® by registered mail. Place everything in one single envelope. Within a week, you ought to get the confirmation email.
> Refund Policy for PMP® Examination Fees:
You must submit a withdrawal request to PMI® at least 30 days prior to the date by which your exam eligibility expires if you decide not to take the PMP® examination.
If you haven’t scheduled the exam or taken it, you’ll get your money back less a $100 processing charge. If you don’t pass the audit procedure, you still get the same amount.
> Exam scheduling for PMP® Certification:
The next step is to scheduling your Exam when the audit procedure and other prerequisites have been completed. You must sign in to the PMI Certification system and select either the Paper-based Test (PBT) or the Computer-based Test as your test delivery mode (CBT). The examination must take place within a year of paying the price.
> Start practicing for the Exam and get familiar with PMP® Question Patterns:

> The PMP® Certification Exam:
The PMP Exam is 180 questions with a 230-minute time limit. The questions are broken down into 3 domains: Process, People, and Business Environment. You can arrange for a retake if you don’t pass the exam on your first try. Within a year, you will have up to three chances to take the PMP® Exam.
After passing the exam successfully, you will get the PMP® Certificate from PMI.
> Renewal of PMP® Certification:
When your 3-year PDU cycle starts after passing the exam, your PMP® certification will become invalid. To keep your PMP® certificate, you must get an extra 60 PDUs every three years. The 3-year cycle does not, however, have to expire before you may renew your PDU. 60 PDUs are available during the certification year itself.
Education and Giving Back to the Profession are the two areas that PMI® has established for earning additional PDUs. You will receive one PDU for every hour spent participating in professional development activities.
