The 13 FISHING - Freefall Carbon - Inline Ice Fishing Reel is a beautiful piece of equipment for your collection of reels. It’s very smooth and easy to use. It works wonderfully for jigging walleyes through the ice with braided 10 pound test line. I’m very impressed with its response to action and its overall feel while fighting fish close to the weight of the fishing line in using. It’s nearly impossible to get the line in these reels twisted. Of course use a proper swivel when jigging. The drag system is dependable and I wouldn’t trade my 6 reels for anything.

I ordered two of the Black Betty FreeFall reels, but with RH retrieve. I was very disappointed to see that they were delivered in packages clearly labeled Left Hand Retrieve. So I submitted to return them and get a refund or new reels. On closer look, the right products were delivered (Right Hand Retrieve) but in mislabeled boxes! I didn't really have to return the items! I put them on rods and loaded them up with line. Work perfectly. However, I now can't see how to "un-do" my order return. I did get an email that if I don't return the items within a certain time I will not be refunded. Fair enough! Maybe I'll just hang on to these reels, even if the boxes were labeled wrong.

Bought this to spoil myself after already owning the radioactive pickle and a maverick which I absolutely love. The freefall feature is amazing and I can’t recommend it enough. My 7 and 9 year olds used them on their first outing with not a single issue and had a blast catching crappie.
My problem with this particular model is due to it being mostly metal exterior and spool - it looks great, but today in the 15 degree F weather, fishing outside, it constantly froze around the metal spool, making it completely useless unless I manually pulled out the line. I couldn’t even see where the ice was forming, so apparently it does not take much moisture for it to happen. Inside the shack it performed ok, but even there I had it get froze up twice. A weird side effect is the spool cap that holds it in place will basically unscrew itself off when you turn the handle while the spool has froze up, which I almost lost once.
I really love 13 Fishing so I hope this was just a fluke. I highly recommend the plastic freefall pickle, maverick, and ghost models instead of this.

I originally purchased this because of how good it looked and how well thought out the design looked for the fishing i was doing. I really wanted to like this reel but when it arrived the magnetic system was completely useless no matter what i did it didn't engage. it also rattled, and i mean loudly, a little shake sounded like the reel wanted to disintegrate. i couldn't even spool it up because i was so disappointed. sent it back, and went back to my old brand.
