I have had one of these Triplett 2030-C DMMs for a few years now, and I am very happy with it. I just ordered a second one for another toolbox. The case is excellent -- it protects the display, the probes and wires tuck easily into the case, and it can be latched open to act as a stand.

The only thing that would make it better is a display backlight.

I've used multimeters over the years, both on the job and around the house, but I've not had to use one recently. I bought this one to check my alternator output, and as I wasn't looking for anything special, the thing that attracted me to it was the low price.
I received it , and was delighted. It exceeded my expectations (which, admittedly were low to begin with) because of the following:

1. Very well built. It is durable, easy to hold and to use, and is trimmed with a brightly colored border (makes it easy to find).
2. The backlight feature makes it easy to read.
3. The built-in thermometer (with thermocouple) was a surprise, and makes the meter far more useful than I expected it would be.
4. Meter was well packaged, arrived quickly, and came with easily understood instructions and attachments.

I rated it 5-star, which I usually won't do with products I don't know much about, simply because I'm so happy with it.

This meter is worlds better than my old cheap but functional Rad Shack cheapy. I bought it because of a recommendation. T correspond with a group of experienced electronics repair techs and hobbyists. Although they use top end meters in their work which cost many times what this one does they told me that this (and two other) meters would do the job well and hold up better than many others that cost more. It has the functions that I need. Although it has many functions these are the ones that are important.
It can test capacitors (which the cheapies can not do)
It can test diodes.
It can test transistors.
It auto-ranges so that I do not have to determine what range I want.
When testing something on the cheaper meters the readings will fluctuate and not truly settle down for quite a while if at all. This one settles down quickly and displays a single solid reading so I don't have to guess.
It comes with a pair of sturdy probes with clips which can be attached if needed.
It has a large easy to read display.
Cons
The clips which attach to the probes are a bit too large to get into and hold onto small cables ect. They could short out or slip off and hit something with high current causing a disaster. You need to get a better set right away.
That is all.
Get it and you won't be disappointed. It also holds its value so well that used ones are selling here on Amazon for nearly the price of a new one!

Had it a year. Works great. No problems. One thing that I noticed after having it a while is that the reading settles down to a firm reading fairly fast. When using my other, cheaper meter the reading will sort of fluctuate and I have to approximate in my head. That is not often a problem with this.
