In this auction we have a nice antique advertising Stoneware jug, It is a 1 gallon size. Hand thrown, salt glazed, with a gray-beige bottom and a dark brown Albany Slip Glazed top. Marked on the front in black letters and applied with a giant stamp says, TELEPHONE CONNECTION, ESTABLISHED 1860, Caspar Vetter, IMPORTED AND WHOLESALE DEALER IN FINE WHISKEY AND WINES. 427 POPLAR ST, COR. LAWRENCE ST. PHILADELPHIA. Old Chimney Corner Pure Rye-Sole Proprietor. It is in excellent condition for it`s age with only one small chip on the bottom, and measures 11 1/2" tall x 6 1/2" wide. This beautiful jug weights 6 lbs not packaged up, and has a potters mark that says SHERWOOD BROS. Pottery Works, NEW BRIGHTON, PA. It is hard to read, but I know the pottery mark. They were located in Beaver County, north-west of Pittsburgh. It has a strong applied handle and a perfect spout. See photos for more details, this magnificent saloon jug is original.
